Picture Inequality: Challenge to Indifference (2012-2013)

In these paintings I aim to make visible the scale and reality of inequality in sub Saharan Africa by exploring statistics on quality of life indicators from UN Human Development Reports. They focus on the lack of access to basic human rights such as water, food, shelter, education, healthcare and the huge disparity that exists globally in terms of income, life expectancy, child mortality and maternal mortality.

Many of these paintings, together with some paintings from my Famine series, were exhibited in my first solo show Picture Inequality: Challenge to Indifference at the Custom House Studios & Gallery in Westport, Co Mayo in July 2013 .
